King Frank was conceived as a new community hub in the heart of Stoke Newington, London. While the area is saturated with highly stylised, minimalist coffee shops, King Frank was built to be a truly inclusive social space. The goal was to create an identity that felt welcoming, established, and authentic, signalling quality and modernity without the sterile coldness of "trendy" competitors.

Summary
We collaborated to position King Frank as the soulful alternative to the modern London café. By moving away from over-minimalism and focusing on a narrative of warmth and accessibility, we developed a brand that feels like it has always been part of the neighbourhood. The result is a powerful, cohesive identity that bridges the gap between high-end quality and genuine community spirit.
Challenge
Stoke Newington is a competitive landscape dominated by "Instagram-first" aesthetics that can often feel intimidating or exclusive to certain demographics. The challenge was to achieve a "warm authority", building a brand that looks professional enough to compete with the big players, while remaining soft and inclusive enough to serve as a local living room. We had to prove that a café can be both a high-quality destination and a friendly, unpretentious community hub.
Solutions
We utilized a strategy of Intentional Inclusivity to ensure the brand felt like an open door to every demographic.
Vibrant Community Identity: We moved away from the cold, monochromatic palettes typical of the area, opting instead for a visual system that feels established and full of life. This signals that King Frank is a place for people, not just for aesthetics.
The "Human" Aesthetic: By avoiding over-minimalism, we selected typography and design elements that feel tactile and approachable. This creates a sense of "modern nostalgia", a brand that feels fresh but deeply rooted in the community.
Full-Spectrum Cohesion: From the physical in-store experience and merchandise to the digital presence and website, we ensured the "hub" philosophy was felt at every touchpoint. This toolkit allows the client to maintain a professional, high-end feel while keeping the community connection at the forefront.
Outcome: King Frank is now positioned as the definitive community alternative in Stoke Newington. It successfully communicates that while the coffee and service are top-tier, the environment is built for everyone. The brand has achieved rapid market entry by being the "warm heart" of a busy London street.
