Callum Thompson launched Sea, Shore & Safety to provide comprehensive marine training, ranging from high-speed powerboat safety and paddleboard instruction to shore-based navigation and marine first aid. Operating out of Cumbria, the brand serves a diverse audience of professional mariners and outdoor enthusiasts. We collaborated to create a brand that balances the "practical and the academic," ensuring every service felt like part of a unified, expert-led curriculum.

Summary

The core objective was to build a brand concept capable of housing disparate services under one clear, trusted banner. We moved away from the traditional, often dated, marine industry aesthetics to create a modern and dynamic identity. By focusing on "cohesive versatility," we developed a visual system that communicates safety and professionalism without feeling rigid, ensuring the brand remains as current on a paddleboard as it does in a first aid classroom.

Challenge

The marine training sector is frequently visually fragmented, often split between "old-school" professional maritime styles and overly casual leisure branding. The challenge was to bridge this gap. We needed to design an identity that portrayed enough authority for navigation and first aid certifications, while retaining the energy and dynamism required for practical powerboat and paddleboard training. We had to ensure that the wide breadth of services didn't confuse the customer, but instead reinforced the brand's position as a one-stop safety expert.

Solutions

We implemented a strategy of "Current Maritime Authority" to ensure the brand felt established yet modern.

Modern Marine Aesthetic: We bypassed industry clichés, opting for a clean, sophisticated visual language. This modern look appeals to a wide demographic, from younger paddleboarders to veteran mariners, while maintaining an authentic connection to maritime heritage.

Structural Versatility: We developed a modular brand architecture. This allows the various course categories, Powerboat, Paddle, Navigation, and First Aid, to have their own space while remaining clearly tied to the core Sea, Shore & Safety identity.

Trust-Centric Design: Safety is the primary product. Every design choice, from the bold typography to the structured layouts, was made to instantly convey the high standards and professionalism inherent in Callum’s training.

Seamless Digital Navigation: We designed a website structure that acts as a clear roadmap. By categorising the services intuitively, we ensured that users can find and book the specific training they need without friction.

Outcome: Sea, Shore & Safety now stands as a premier marine training brand with a visual identity that matches its high-level expertise. It is a cohesive, professional, and modern brand that is prepared for growth across all maritime sectors.
